I think MMH is going to tear up the community in Arlington. County may have gotten their way but it’s not a good look when there is so much infighting within the community. Location will keep Arlington desirable to an extent but there will a a lot of bad blood due to MMH. I live one town over in McLean, this is just my reading, of course I could be wrong . We pass through N Arlington many times on our way to restaurants and such and I see plenty of opposition to MMH via yard signs. I guess we shall see how this shakes out.
I live in N Arlington and most people I know IRL have sort of mixed feelings about it, but don’t talk about it on a regular basis and are just seeing what happens. The only people I know who have up yard signs and are really vocal about opposing it are the olds who will be out of here in the coming years anyway. Maybe this will make them sell off early, who knows. It’s a major stretch to say it’s tearing the community apart.
“Mixed feelings” = being personally against it but afraid to voice opposition because of fear of what people might think about you. This is the beauty of messaging that somehow MM is anti-racist and that SFH = racist when there is zero evidence that MM will increase the proportion of Black homeowners in Arlington.
That's on you, though? Have the courage of your convictions.
Yes, you should absolutely blame the victims who will be falsely accused of being racist or otherwise being “the man” if they question the YIMBY motives or methods. Look at them, being concerned about their neighborhoods. The nerve of not buying the narrative! And did you see what they were wearing?
You're comparing to public discourse to rape-victim blaming?
