Dr. Hutchings always responds to me too. I don't write often, but have about the when he said the school choice for in person or virtual was not binding, then changed it. I also wrote about getting the 6 city wide kids back to in-person learning and my concerns about COVID mitigiation in this new SY. Just because he responded, doesn't mean he has addressed the issues. There has to be a better way for parents to engage than having to email the form for the board and superintendent. It is very challenging. I don't want to bog down ACPS staff and leadership, but this is not about whether or not about his job performance or my personal opinions of him or any leaders. It is about my kid's health and safety, and that is the hill that I'm willing to die on. My kids and our kids in our community, as well as our teachers and their families, matter. This is not personal or an attack on Dr. Hutchings. This is about addressing COVID-19 mitigation.
I am curious if you received any type of meaningful response on the issue of the non-binding school choice forms being treated as binding. It seemed that Hutchings never acknowledged that he went back on his word (rather than explaining why the change in course had to be made). I find his unwillingness to not own up to misstatements, etc. infuriating.
No. Just the same old about how ACPS, like every other emplorer in the world, has never been in a global pandemic. I'm sure if I met the guy in real life, I'd like him okay. But I just find his management style really problematic. It seems like he always back pedals and never owns up to any errors or flips the script entirely. I am really concerned about the leadership of the school. Not Dr. Hutchings but a lot of these new hires in the leadership level have their doctorate from online, for-profit universities. I am not impressed by someone who has their Ph.D. from Strayer or University of Phoenix.
