I think we’re going to get one next year. They’ve really grown on me.
I love my Wrangler but you can get a much better pick up truck for the price.
I don’t know if that’s actually true, though. I say this because we’ve shopped a lot of compact/midsize pick-up trucks lately, and feature-for-feature, the Gladiator seems to be at least on par with the others in terms of pricing and features (we need about 6k tow capability, 4wd a must-have, and at least 1,200 lb bed capacity). We’ve looked at the Tacoma, Frontier, Ridgeline, Colorado, and Ranger. The Ranger and Colorado were out because they just felt too small inside. Same with the Frontier. Ridgeline was nicest to drive, but lacking in payload and the bed is partly composite plastic. The Tacoma was very expensive for the TRD Pro model we’d be most interested in, and also was a bit light in payload on the shorter length bed. We aren’t looking at full sized PU’s at all, but if we did, it would be only the Tundra, which is getting a redo next year, and will still be way more truck than we need. When price/features are about equal or slightly in favor of the Jeep for all of them, and then throw in the part about being able to drop the roof and pull the doors and have that fun factor, the Gladiator picks up a lot of points. It’s like a split personality vehicle, where it can haul our furniture or yard stuff, tow, get around in snow and do all the mundane stuff you need a PU for, but then it can transform into fun vehicle in ways other PUs can’t. Plus being really, really off-road capable, unlike the others. So the more we compare stuff like that, the better it’s starting to look.
