Bought the Rubicon Unlimited. Don’t regret it even a little. The gladiator is terrible (and, they could have at least called it the "Scrambler".
Scrambler was a two-door designation for CJ-7’s with a pick up bed. Gladiator was the name for the full size Wagoneer chassis/J10 with a pick up bed.
The Gladiator name is actually appropriate given the vehicle classification as a half-ton pick up.

Yes. But you and I are probably the only two people on DCUM who know what a CJ-8 was. (or a CJ-6, or 5, or 3, or 3B, or 2A). More people might remember a CJ-7 though.
