OP, thanks for the update, but this is just a completely insane situation. It's been four months and the dog is only getting worse? What is the dog now -- like 8 months old? It is going into puberty and if it isn't trained now, it's going to be such a disaster. If you had rehomed the dog as a puppy, it would have been so much easier for someone to try to train it. It's only going to get worse and worse as time goes on.
I agree and frankly, they both dropped the ball. 8 month old large breed is peeing constantly? WTF? My 4 month old medium to large breed hasn't had an accident in weeks. Dog should have been surrendered as a puppy or, ideally, never brought home in the first place. This is insanity. Someone needs to commit to this dog. That can be OP and DH or another family, but no one is doing right by this animal. I am not someone who says, "surrender the dog" very often, if ever, but this animal is not getting what it needs to thrive. Puppy daycare doesn't count, it needed (and still desperately needs) training. A board and train might be an idea, but you have to be prepared to be trained yourself and constantly reinforce those concepts, knowing you're behind the ball on all of this.
I’ve worked with a professional trainer with her as well as trying to reinforce the training on a daily basis! When I have friends come over I strictly forbid them to give her any attention until the dog is in a submissive all paws down position. God forbid can’t have her jumping on people. I’ve owned German shepherds my whole life and they trained so easily. She is strictly forbidden to approach the dinner table but it’s a constant battle. I’m sorry but this dog is a lot more hyper and hardheaded than any other dog I’ve had. Just like people, they do have different personalities and she is a terrible. She doesn’t pee constantly but she peed on one rug and she has gone back to the same spot again even tho I used odor killer. Her food drive is insane and like I said you can’t leave your plate if she’s within 15 feet pretending she’s sleeping she will literally jump up and run and grab what’s on your plate in lightning speed! My DH has had it with her but he wld rather shoot himself in the kneecap than admit he was wrong plus the fact he chose a dog that’s such a handful. So I’m stuck in this and I’m trying my best but it is a disruption & aggravation in our life now. I want to have dinner parties but it’s an impossibility with such an animal. She is literally worse when we have guests over because I think she’s thinking, I can do whatever I want now cause my parents won’t punish me. FYI the daycare has even mentioned how food aggressive she is! So coming from people who deal with hundreds of dogs says a lot! Her weight is perfect and my DH gives her more food than recommended. I would love for her to stay with the pp for one week! Haha
