If my kid was looking to play the most competitive soccer possible, I’d start with the top ECNL teams at my kid’s birth year, and would join one of those teams if my kid could play meaningful minutes for one of those teams. If that was not possible, I’d look at the other ECNL, GA or CCL teams, primarily because I think there is no substitute for playing time. I’ve seen kids sit for most of the games for travel teams at various levels, and that’s no fun for the kid or good for their development.
