Same is now true for Baltimore with Pipeline, Baltimore Armour and Celtic Union being in ECNL and GA. Baltimore is not big enough to support 3 high quality teams in each birth year, just as NoVa is not big enough to support 7 high quality teams.
At the various age groups, though, there are teams much stronger than the others. At 07, that’s Loudoun, FCV, McLean and Bethesda, but that list would be very different if you’re talking about the 02/03s.
If my kid was looking to play the most competitive soccer possible, I’d start with the top ECNL teams at my kid’s birth year, and would join one of those teams if my kid could play meaningful minutes for one of those teams. If that was not possible, I’d look at the other ECNL, GA or CCL teams, primarily because I think there is no substitute for playing time. I’ve seen kids sit for most of the games for travel teams at various levels, and that’s no fun for the kid or good for their development. That’s just my opinion, and I appreciate others have different opinions. To each his/her own.

Is ECNL great across the board by way of competition?
IS GA great across the board by way of competition?
Both Leagues are getting watered down
So why is GA clubs not having many issues when they play ECNL clubs
But see comments that a problem is the GA League
It is an odd way to recruit to your ECNL club by bashing GA and the kids that play in it.
Why is it odd? Everyone is doing you a favor by reminding you over 5000 posts that GA is done, everyone hates FCV but doesn’t hate MU or Arlington, Loudoun only has one good age group (07), encl is not elite, all of the clubs in this area suck, yada yada. Ecnl clubs don’t need to recruit en mass. Maybe one or two slots on the first team. They’ll take anyone who will pay for the 2nd team.
If you are telling people that their kid is trash because in your estimation they play in a trash league then why would they want to come? Why would they believe they are even good enough to make your team? Keep telling people they are trash and eventually I guess they will believe it and your team, which is where you want to see improvement will not get the turnout at ID sessions.
No one cares. There’s only 2-3 girls left at FCV and MU that any ecnl team would get excited to recruit.

Loudon (developing a steady playing system of modern soccer m)
Bethesda (would be number one without parents ruining the club and scaring players and coaches away. Many families that are rich don’t care if ECNL is a path to college - case in point the disrespect of the family that allowed their kid to stay home from school sick and go to practice - quarantined the entire team with covid)
Mclean (broken year needs to rebuild)
MD United (coach is out of favor with players)
Baltimore Armour - first class coaching, weakness is GA
Baltimore Celtic - same as Armour
Arlington - probably stealing mclean girls with the new coach who was fired from mclean for fighting with a parent
VDA - meh.
None of the girls from McLean will move to Arlington because of the new coach. He was fired for a reason: bad coaching and arrogant attitude. It was a long time coming. Current McLean coach has his work cut out for him undoing all the bad habits left over from the previous coach. Good luck to Arlington.
It’s all about what is the right fit
Pipeline does not deserve to be on any list
