For those who are saying it didn't work, you're seriously missing the point. It did work. It brought the virus from rampant community spread down to isolated, traceable and treatable cases. Sure there were secondary outbreaks here and there, but nothing on the scale of what we face here. I mean Hong Kong is freaking out about a third wave now of about 1,000 cases in the last two weeks, but that's a DAILY total for Maryland, which has a smaller population. New Zealand had a couple of cases, but they are tracing and isolating and getting it back down under control. There is no way to get 60,000 cases a day "under control". We can crush the virus back to the level of controllable with some more radical action than what is being done now. If we have the will to try...
What are you having trouble understanding? Maybe we can explain it to you if you give specifics. Yes it brought it down like that WHILE WE WERE SHUT DOWN. Open back up, back up up up the numbers go. There is no "crushing the virus" by just staying inside for a few weeks.
Exactly this. We can't keep shutting everything down for weeks and months at a time over and over again. It's not working. So, those at high risk, stay home, use good hygiene, especially if you have family members who are circulating, and take care of your health. Guaranteed, at least 30% of the population has already had the virus. It is mostly harmless. I know, cue all the posters saying, "but, damaged lungs, long-term effects..."
