They don't, unless they either A: Know you'll badger them about religion and want to spare themselves the headache or B: want to give you a way to feel useful in a situation where you either can't or won't be able to help in any kind of concrete fashion.

I agree with the other posters who said that questioning her motivation at this point is in very poor taste, but if posting here and arguing with people here about it keeps you from pestering your ill acquaintance about it then by all means keep at it.  Extend to her the courtesy she may well be extending to you.[/quote]
