Why does any parent need to meet with the high school counselor? They're worthless. As long as they upload their recommendation / school report to Common App, we had zero use for them. And my kids were at top privates. Some of you parents are acting like lunatics. Simmer down.
Someone needs to write the official school recommendation for the student. If that isn't the high school counselor, then who is it?
It’s boilerplate and uploaded to Common App. Why would a parent need to meet 1 on 1 with a counselor about it? Mentally unstable.
Uh, I think you are not understanding. The school writes a recommendation of the student. Not a teacher rec, but a statement by the school sent to the schools that student is applying to. That is hardly written by the student. Rather than call me mentally unstable, please understand what I am saying. It is the COLLEGE COUNSELOR who writes that recommendation based on knowing the student after several one on one meetings. The parent doesn't need to meet with the college counselor, but the student sure does, on multiple occasions over a series of months.
I met my high school college counselor once and everything turned out fine.
How different was the process for you as compared to your parents? How different do you think it is today? as compared to when you went through it?
My parents didn't go through it. My kids' experience has been Pretty much the same as mine.
