Why does the SFS parent community accept this?

Wow did a parent really do this? The idea that some parent thinks they are on such a moral high ground that they need to double check what goes out in another student? Wow just wow. As for meeting with college counselor that is something I am not sure on anger. My kid is not bearnet college age but I for sure would want to meet with the counselor to understand if the colleges our child picked were in target and what do those colleges look for. I can go years back and remember my mom reading the recommendation from our school counselor (School accidentally put the letter in our packet that went home and not because mom’s was snooping)and losing it because counselor basically omitted 90 percent what I accomplished during my hs years. Was it laziness or helping someone else, not sure but in end glad mom caught it.

This is not even remotely beautiful. The writer has such a chip on her shoulder that she can't even get her facts straight.

What are the facts she got wrong?

Why does OP assume that the would-be saboteur is a woman?

Someone needs to write the official school recommendation for the student. If that isn't the high school counselor, then who is it?

It’s boilerplate and uploaded to Common App. Why would a parent need to meet 1 on 1 with a counselor about it? Mentally unstable.

Uh, I think you are not understanding. The school writes a recommendation of the student. Not a teacher rec, but a statement by the school sent to the schools that student is applying to. That is hardly written by the student. Rather than call me mentally unstable, please understand what I am saying. It is the COLLEGE COUNSELOR who writes that recommendation based on knowing the student after several one on one meetings. The parent doesn't need to meet with the college counselor, but the student sure does, on multiple occasions over a series of months.

I met my high school college counselor once and everything turned out fine.

How different was the process for you as compared to your parents? How different do you think it is today? as compared to when you went through it?

My parents didn't go through it. My kids' experience has been Pretty much the same as mine.

What, that the college counselor is supposed to write their recommendation of their students?

The sabotage.

So one crazy person defines a whole community. Got it.

Doubtful that the school wrote letters to parents because of one crazy parent.

More likely that this parent is symptomatic of a general cultural problem at the school.

Neither you, nor I have any idea. But so far, it is cited that there was someone who stalked the Director and sent an anonymous letter to one or more colleges. It could be two people or it could be one, but either way, it isn't symptomatic of a general culture problem at the school.

Someone who hides between cars in the garage may be considered as "stalking."

I'm sorry, but a parent whose emails are not replied to and tries to get a brief word with the director in the hallway before the kids all arrive and the day starts is not stalking.

So with that interpretation, then we are talking about likely a single person who anonymously sent letters to schools about a student.

I think they sent Sidwell the letter not colleges. It sounds like they thought the applicant lied about a suspension(s) on their applications.

Love WAPO quoting some random women who grew up Inv ny in her experience years ago. Only a 5 paragraph anecdote this time? Hope the Big 3 teach more critical reading and writing than this.

People don't quit in frustration over one parent who won't be part of next year's group. They quit because of frustration with the general tone that they encounter.

That can actually happen if they feel unsupported or unprotected by their administration.
