Interestingly, all of boy DA clubs are still running ID sessions for 2008/09 boys. Is USSDA still gonna drop U12 DA next season?
Here’s the link for Loudoun’s DA sessions: http://www.loudounsoccer.com/da/boysda/datalentidcenters/ Looks like they are fielding a DA team in that age group as well. I think only the programming was at issue, but the DA clubs were given the responsibility of managing that instead of US Soccer. Seems what I thought might happen is the case; the clubs are going to continue the age group and align the programming with US soccer’s schedules for the older age groups. So that means while US Soccer saves some cash for referee and scout time, the clubs keep their extra revenue stream, players get their chances to break into the club at younger ages and benefit from the DA training, clubs apply the same curriculum, and the tier of competition is retained. Seems like a win for all involved.
Do you think they are going to continue to have 2 9v9 teams at U12? Seems to me like that was part of the headache. Logistically it's a challenge b/c some clubs have the field space for simultaneous side-by-side games and others have to do them back-to back. It also causes a ton of stress b/c so many of the U12s are not going to make the U13 team. The stress level ramps up big time in the winter, and gets worse and worse all spring. Every game, every decision, every touch is put under a microscope by the parents. It wasn't so much of a problem the 1st year they did the U12s - when it was 04/05 - because most teams had a lot of 05s mixed in. So not too many 04s got cut when they made the jump to U14, and none of the 05s got cut because clubs needed to build 11v11 rosters for U13. Last year it was brutal for the U12s though. Would be easier to just start with 1 9v9 team and then gradually build to a 11v11 roster.
You can fit two 9x9 fields into one 11v11 size field (use each half as one 9x9 field, tangential direction to 11v11 play). There shouldn't be a problem for any club to meet the requirement, in theory, assuming they have properly sized fields to work with. Just play the 9v9 games simultaneously, prior to or post the 11v11 games.
