So it's a private nonprofit that has a close partnership with mcps, doing something well, and efficiently, that mcps is unable to do. This is much ado about nothing.
+1 My MCPS kids have been in both Focus and Title I schools, and in both cases I've seen their classmates take advantage of Saturday School to either remediate challenging subjects or to get the kinds of "fun" gifted activities that many of us benefited from as kids - engineering challenges, brain teasers, etc. I honestly don't know why anyone would oppose this. It engages families who are actively seeking out opportunities for their kids, but who can't afford Mathnasium or other truly private tutoring programs. It is a net benefit for MCPS and also for the schools targeted.
Nobody ‘opposes’ the program. I’m sure it’s great. My neighbor attends. However, we do oppose using Public School Money to fund a Private School. Unless you are for Charter Schools (which maybe you are?).
