How about he say something like this: "knowing he might die, he still wanted to serve his country. He was a true patriot, and we are indebted to him, and to you and your family. My thoughts are with you." Not that hard. And I'm no word smith either.
I can't believe that, with all of Trump's HUGE screw ups, the resistance is reduced to whining about his imperfect word choice when consoling a widow. It makes me fear his odds of winning reelection are pretty high.
Because this one feels oddly personal. A slight so small yet so devious. From the party who has pretended to patriotic for decades come excuses for a CiC* who can't perform the bare minimum with even a crumb of grace. Because "he knew what he signed up for" is akin to blaming the deceased, a man who did in fact "give all" in service to his country. Because flouting convention - AGAIN - and not bothering to have his staff liaise with the family and instead calling at a time when I think most of us would be at our weakest is criminally cruel. I don't know about you, but I regard the time before the funeral as one of the worst times of my life. And that POS called her on the way there. Then insulted him. Because that fat cluck was GOLFING AGAIN when the bodies came back. Because that dotard pretended to be upset with the NFL players for kneeling when in reality he cares not one whit for the country. Because he's a low piece of trash, and this is such a personal blow.
