Trey is getting a bad rap in this thread for being stiff and boring but so was Charlotte. They were equally matched IMO.
Speaking of those 2, something that always bugged me was him giving her the apartment in the divorce. That was prime real estate and had been in his family for generations - and he gives her the house, where she moves her new husband in and has a family there.
Trey and Charlotte couldn't have been married more than 15 months and that includes a separation. I'm usually not team MIL, but Bunny really should have pulled out the big guns, maybe had Trey declared insane - whatever it took to put a stop to that nonsense.
See, I think that story line was great and seemed accurate. It was so sad when Trey told Charlotte he didn't want any children. I mean, that's devastating and he's such a good man to give her the apartment. I think in real life it would have gone down a similar way. "Trey gave me that apartment"-"it wasn't his to give", and then the telegram "Charlotte was a wonderful wife. Give her everything she wants. seriously mother. Stop".
I thought it seemed really stupid. A telegram? REally? Was it 1936? She might have been a good wife, but that didn't mean she deserved a mulit-million dollar piece of property that had been in his family for years.
A few years of alimony, sure. Or a payout. But COME ON.
I just think Trey was a really good guy, and he knew how terrible his mother was. He loved charlotte, he knew he had failed her, and he wanted to make it up to her. Maybe he didn't want his mother to have the house and wanted charlotte to be able to have her future family there.

Trey was "beta,"Harry and especially Big were more "alpha."
On the subject of characters-- Did anyone think Samantha and Charlotte were more or less one dimensional, with Carrie and Miranda being more multidimensional? Of course, Carrie was the central character and narrator, so we heard her insights more.
I think they did try to add layers to both Charlotte and Samantha by having them face challenges unique to their particular dispositions. Charlotte is a Park Ave. Princess who wanted to marry Prince Charming. Well...she did and found out all that glitters is not gold. When she ended up with the "beast" that is Harry to her "beauty," she demonstrated a lot of growth and agency.
Same thing with Sam and the Smith and cancer story line. We also sensed that Sam was sexually promiscuous because of her deep sense of insecurity. She thought no man could possibly want her for anything other than her body. I don't necessarily think Carrie and Miranda were more developed than the other two.
I think it would have been much more interesting if Harry was poor, but I guess they thought they had already done that with Steve.

I agree with this completely. And I don't doubt that piece of real estate was just one of many. It just happened to be the one Trey lived in. I don't think he missed it, and am willing to bet he found an even better apartment.

Anonymous wrote:Yeah. Trey wanted a break because IVF is frustrating and hard. Char was acting like a brat especially considering he was a really good husband in all areas (once bedroom issues were fixed).
She couldn't wait a year and try again? She just quit.
And didn't she also kiss their gardener and Trey pardoned, forgave it?

+1 - in the episode where she was negotiating her prenup I think she was only going to get $1 million and that's if she were married for a certain number of years. And part of the reason Trey wanted to take a break from TTC was because of how crazy Charlotte was acting, not because he just changed his mind. No way she earned that apartment after a marriage that didn't even last a full season.
