Yeah he was on borrowed time, infliction of injury conviction, should have come up or would have come up when he tried to renew his green card. At which point he would have been detained until his case was heard, at which point he would probably have been deported. Which makes his parents extra stupid for voting for Trump.

We have rules that are reasonably clearly spelled out, about what crimes can lose your LPS status.  Trump is just arbitrarily removing people, which is not okay.  An unreliable and arbitrary government is unAmerican.  Which is why everyone is so alarmed.[/quote]

The thing that I personally find very frustrating is that Trump tried to overthrow an election and has been very clear for a very long time that he intended to do other illegal and unconstitutional things. People didn't listen or they didn't believe him or whatever - but, like, him turning out to be a scumbag grifter who flouts laws and conventions? That is exactly zero amount of surprising.

On the one hand, I feel for these people. I have to assume they don't have good educations and are in some kind of bubble where liking Trump is normal. On the other hand - seriously, it was all right there. At some point the onus is on you to actually pay the slightest bit of attention. Hopefully they'll vote differently next time. And their kid won't wind up in El Salvador.[/quote]
