Of course it's about disenfranchisement. But we can always count on Republicans to not think things through. In general, married women who have changed their names are more likely to vote Republican than unmarried women or married women who kept their names. Older people who are more likely to vote Republican are also less likely to vote in person when the weather is bad or the lines are long. Republican voters tend to travel abroad less and are therefore less likely to have passports. And on and on. In the aggregate, this bill is likely to disenfranchise more Republican voters than Democrats.

It reminds me of Republican redistricting efforts when they assumed Latinos were solidly voting for the GOP and drew the lines accordingly. Well, it turns it 2024 was a blip and Latinos are largely voting for Democrats again. Redistricting ended up putting a lot more seats in play in states with large Latino populations. But none of this should be a surprise. Just look at the modern Republican Party in the age of Trump. Not exactly a bunch of rocket scientists.  [/quote]
