Gerri's doing the Larry David thing where you keep showing up after you are fired. Works.
Yup. I don't think Gerri is "fired fired." She'll tell Roman he didn't mean it, he'll shrug, and that'll be it. Or that's the point where Roman doubles down again and makes a big mistake and really fires her. I think one of the Old Guard has to go because I think there's further fracturing/conflict that has to happen to get to the eventual climax of the story. Gerri is the most prominent character and has the most emotional tie to the viewer, so she's a prime candidate. Frank's firing could also have some emotional heft because (and I'm repeating myself) Frank seems decent. He's also Kendall's godfather. So is he's cruelly treated/humiliated that's also a good plot device. Karl could be fired but there's not the same dramatic potential.
Not sure how this plays into this, but the trailer for the next episode, which appears to take place entirely over the course of this one party that includes all the major players including Matsson, shows Kendall saying to Frank "How about we do the reverse viking" and Frank saying "Am I supposed to know what that means?" I am guessing "reverse viking" refers to Matsson (Scandinavian, viking) and this might be Kendall trying to pull Frank in on some anti-Matsson scheming. If this blows up in his face, that makes Kendall and Roman 0/3 with the Old Guard since taking over as CEO, and I could see them uniting to pull something, like asking for a vote of "no confidence" from the board on Kendall and Roman's leadership. Between potentially scuttling the Matsson deal, Kendall fudging numbers and video of his dad to push Living+, and Roman exposing the company to major employment litigation over not one but two firings of high profile women in the company on the same day, they have a great argument for it. A board vote that is a referendum on Kendall and Roman could be very dramatic because it would pull in players like Ewan, Shiv, and Tom, and make them pick sides, plus no doubt the board would be interested in Matsson's read on the situation due to the pending deal.
