You don’t hear the GOP or Trump going on and on about it. Almost as if it never really existed.
We have lived in DMV for decades and never met one ANTIFA person. We have met many liberals, many Republicans, anti abortion advocates, die hard Trumpers and anti Trumpers. We have never met one Antifa - I think there largely a figment of extreme paranoid imaginations fighting perceived vague threats from the left.
I have met an ANTIFA. It was my WWII vet grandfather.
Thank your grandfather for his service. Ukraine is crawling with ANTIFA right now. I pray for their success.
It would be great if GOP voters figured out that they are on the “FA” side now.
+1 These guys were just following orders. [twitter]https://twitter.com/mar_a_hell_no/status/1517553989679779848?s=21&t=Ez697D_ZsL9eF6rbsIcZ3w[/twitter]
I still wonder what his exact suspicions were regarding that, if any, or if it was just “never go with a kidnapper to a second location” generalized worry.
I think part of Pence’s calculation to stay in the Capitol was also that, in the Capitol, the Executive Branch has no authority. As a former House member, Pence knew that, within the Capitol, there was an opposing security force that was not at the command of Trump as Commander-in-Chief - the Capitol Police - who could protect him and that he could appeal to the House and Senate for additional protection if necessary. Although Pence himself was at that moment VP and part of the Executive Branch and, in theory, obliged to follow the orders of the President, he was also in that moment, in a Legislative Branch building performing his Constitutionally mandated role in a Legislative Branch act. The Capitol was actually, not just a place of physical shelter but also the one place that the orders of the Commander in Chief could not reach if Pence refused to obey. As a former House Rep., he had to realize that.
How does he position that day in his run for the presidency?
Alternately saying he supported Trump and that he saved America. The media doesn’t expect consistency from Republicans, so he could talk out of both sides of his mouth.
I think Pence COULD have had a massive political triumph if he had publicly denounced Trump and backed impeachment and conviction. The GOP is feckless and directionless. They would have followed Pence. Pence would have brought all the Never Trumpers back, would have even received support (if grudging) from the Democrats and would be talked about as such a statesman while he cooled his heels for a few years until the 2024 election.
