Perhaps.  I am wondering what will come of this.  Not at all saying the parents are innocent, but I am wondering how they will substantiate criminal charges beyond negligence.   As far as I know, there is no legal requirement of how you must store a weapon in your house you own.  Are teen gang members' parents that have a teen grab a home weapon and commit a crime charged? Is a spouse that commits suicide with their other spouses weapon charged? Not debating the parents terrible decisions, just wondering how the law will work with this[/quote]

I think it’s more that they knew they bought him the gun, that he had access to it, and when the school called them in and told them about the disturbing drawing and internet search, they said nothing to the school about the existence of the gun, didn’t ask their child about the gun or even look for it, and refused to take him home. THOSE actions are what got them in trouble. If he just randomly took the gun and did this with no warning I don’t think they would be charged.[/quote]
