People like this are not parents, or even human, they are selfish animals.
Agree. Their child was in crisis and they didn’t even respond. Maybe they could have saved their son from throwing his life away. I don’t know how they are still living with themselves. Aside from the culpability to the victims’, they failed their own child.
There must be such disconnect between these parents and Ethan. The fact that they would go on the run when he's in prison even further emphasizes it.

Perhaps. I am wondering what will come of this. Not at all saying the parents are innocent, but I am wondering how they will substantiate criminal charges beyond negligence. As far as I know, there is no legal requirement of how you must store a weapon in your house you own. Are teen gang members' parents that have a teen grab a home weapon and commit a crime charged? Is a spouse that commits suicide with their other spouses weapon charged? Not debating the parents terrible decisions, just wondering how the law will work with this
Vast majority of teen gang members don’t acquire guns from family members. They acquire guns from fellow gang members. And the prosecutors DO go after those who supply guns illegally to gang members, if they can prove chain of custody.
Only middle class white kids acquire guns from family to shoot up their schools. Teens who commit suicide by gun almost always acquire the gun from family.
Frankly, I think you’re crazy to have a gun in a home with a teenager. Their brains are so prone to terrible decision making, not understanding long term consequences of actions. Odds of gun suicide spike dramatically with the existence of a gun in the household.
Domestic violence odds go way up too. Just a bad idea all around.
No one gets over the death of a child. But if my child died like this, I think my anger over it would destroy me. I don’t think I could ever let it go.
It’s sort of a chicken/egg dilemma - are those who own guns more prone to committing domestic violence? I don’t think the guns causes the domestic violence, but rather both of those elements are indicative of a broader pattern of terrible decision making and lack of emotional regulation. In other words, the people most desirous of guns - outside of a professional setting (military/police) - are very likely those who are least able to handle the responsibility of guns on both a practical and emotional level.
This is why we need to study guns violence!!!
I’m the person you quoted and I agree! Especially what I bolded.
