CC posts can be very informative vs THIS site which usually advises gap year or community college.
+1 It is disconcerting to read CC for the first time because it is giving you the real picture of how well qualified college applicants are getting each year. After you get over the first rush of panic, you can use it as a great resource. The trick is to read it when your kid is in MS or begining of HS, so that you can actually chart a path for your child. It is not for the kid who is aiming for a community college because of bad grades vs. aiming for community college for the value it gives you for your education dollars. Community colleges are great, if they are part of a deliberate plan to eventually get to a Masters etc or because it gets you the qualifications for the job you are aspiring for. It is not the best thing if it is a fall back because you are not able to get admitted anywhere else - due to bad grades or bad prep.
