DC is enrolled for pk4 at our desirable neighborhood school, but DH and I may be moving to a different neighborhood this summer. Will DC still be able to attend the school in the old neighborhood this fall? The school in the new neighborhood is desirable too, but even with in-boundary preference, I'm pretty sure DC would not get a seat by that late in the game (based on a terrible lottery pick). I really don't care which school DC attends, as long as it is one of them. What happens under these circumstances?
Once you provided evidence of residency and address for the year - you are in for the year. If you want to enroll in your new neighborhood school - you can call my school DC and you will be put on the waitlist given your original lottery # and new school preference. For next year (K) you need to enroll in your neighborhood school.
This answer is correct. Your enrollment docs are in, that's the address that counts. (Would be a different story if you moved out of DC.) But if you enrolled with neighborhood preference, you'll have to reapply out of bounds next year for this same (now for you out of bounds) school. None of this has much to do with principal discretion.
