OP, for pete's sake, say nothing about your residency situation/moving plans to admins or fellow parents. You've enrolled without breaking any rules, so the onus isn't on you to take further action beyond ensuring that your kid turns up for the first day of school. Use the year ahead to quietly figure out what to do for K, all things considered.

Once you provided evidence of residency and address for the year - you are in for the year.

If you want to enroll in your new neighborhood school - you can call my school DC and you will be put on the waitlist given your original lottery # and new school preference.

For next year (K) you need to enroll in your neighborhood school.



This answer is correct. Your enrollment docs are in, that's the address that counts. (Would be a different story if you moved out of DC.) But if you enrolled with neighborhood preference, you'll have to reapply out of bounds next year for this same (now for you out of bounds) school. None of this has much to do with principal discretion.

You're stuck either paying private daycare/preschool for a year or breaking the rules.


It would be cheaper to double pay for housing September. It's already mid July. Why do you have to move before September?

This. I know a couple families who did this. However, just wanted to note that I don't think your lottery number actually comes into play anymore. You would just be ranked after others who had in-boundary preference who applied before you but before those without the preference.
