I think it's hard for *some* people who come from a secular viewpoint to get into the head of someone who is coming from a strong religious background.  If the religious background is woven into them in a healthy way, it can be a strong foundation for the person acting out of a greater good rather than just to get themselves ahead.

I have friend who is pretty far left, and (a few weeks ago, before the latest Romney condemnation) she was impressed and marveling at Romney, and saying, "Huh, maybe he really is decent and believes in America over his own party affiliation."  So good for her to notice and re-think about his character.

If someone's behavior surprises me, my rule is to question my assumptions--because unpredictability means that my assumptions are incorrect and I need to adjust them.  Anyways, that's worked for me, and helps me to remain open.

I'm still waiting for Trump to surprise me...so far...he's been pretty consistent.  Why people think he will change and become "more presidential" when handed a huge amount of power, I don't get.  Usually power just makes people act in a more extreme version of their present self rather than tempering them.[/quote]
