Three months later, she decided to go by "Nanny." Sure...whatever you like, kid isn't old enough to know/care. Two months later..."I want to be called Grandma after all." ...fine, sure, whatever!

THREE YEARS LATER, with DD2 here--and now that DH's own Grandmama has passed--turns out "Grandma" wants to be called "Grandmama." Apparently, she wanted to be called Grandmama the whole time, but didn't want to do that while DH's Grandmama was still alive, out of respect or something. OK, sure, fine, WHATEVER, JUST PICK A NAME, LADY!

MIL is now upset that my 2.5-year-old calls her only "Grandma Sarah," because that's what we called MIL the most during her "call me Grandma" days, to differentiate her from the ALREADY ESTABLISHED "GRANDMA." Ahem.

If MIL had just picked "Grandmama" from the outset--or literally ANY OTHER NICKNAME but the one that my mom had already "claimed"--none of this would be an issue. She talks about it EVERY time we are together, and she truly is upset/indignant that DD1 calls her "Grandma Sarah."
