My mother is one if those out of bounds gift-givers when it comes to sending gifts to my kids. I think she takes any holiday as an excuse to up the ante and send us more stuff. We have three boys and a slew of valentines day gifts just arrived for three boys under four- books, cards and stuffed animals. One of out kids is four months old. My husband thinks it's bizarre. All we ever received from our depression era grandparents was a v-day card with five bucks if we were lucky. Is this just excessive or what? We thought the gifts would lighten up after Xmas but my mother has gotten very trigger happy with ordering from amazon. I kid you not we've gotten ten packages since the holidays ended. She's retired and I wonder if she's just bored.
My depression era mother would send a card and some money to my kids. Since she died (two years ago), my father has not done anything. My sister will send a card and some cash too. DH's does nothing for any holiday. They used to do something small for Christmas, but that has tailed off and never for birthdays either.
