OP here. This is a really dumb question, but is there non-drowsy Benadryl? I went and looked today at the grocery store, but I could only find regular Benadryl. That drug just knocks me out, so it's tough for me to take during the day!
Zyrtec is the only other antihistamine that will help with hives and it will not make you nearly as drowsy as Benadryl will. I had to take Zyrtec for 2 months before my hives finally went away. The doctor said that most of the time they have no idea why some people get them but they usually fade after 8-10 (long) weeks. I would take Zyrtec every day and slather my body in Benadryl gel twice a day. I even put the gel around my eyes even though you're not supposed to do that. It helped keep the hives from taking over my life. Eventually, they just gradually became less and less until I finally was able to stop taking the Zyrtec.
