I remember that post, OP, and my first inclination was to write tl;dr and then I remembered friends and family members -- specifically several women who contracted breast cancer -- who were in better shape than I am! One ran triathlons. Another had led a life that was super strict in diet and exercise because her mom had a hysterectomy. Those are just two examples. Both had smooth recoveries because of consistently healthy choices. Here's the clincher: cancer was discovered in Stage 1 and Stage 2, respectively, due to preventive checkups. True, there are many people who've made consistently unhealthy choices and contracted cancer, but my grandmother smoked her entire life and never got cancer. She died at 90 from complications due to Alzheimer's. Maybe someday a scientist will find a link. Who knows? The point is that anecdotal examples lead to unreliable conclusions. It's better to proceed from empathy. So, yes, you've pointed out yet another example of a judgmental, holier-than-thou DCUM poster who comes across simultaneously as simplistic and unsympathetic. Unfortunately, they are all over this board. Keep pointing this out. It expands the dialogue for everyone.
