Go into guitar center and ask them.  It is a fairly overwhelming store, but you can ask someone for help with something.

Does he have an iPod? (I assume so).  Get him a nice docking station for his room so he can turn it into a stereo. If he doesn't have an iPod, get him one, with some $ to spend on music etc.

Bose makes great noise reduction earbuds.  They are more than $100, but according to my teen, totally worth it (he paid out of his own money).

smart wool socks.  Expensive, but really yummy when it is cold.  I wouldn't give these without some fun gifts, but these really are nice to have.
