If it has been 18 months, I think you should see an RE (Fertility Specialist). I know it sounds intimidating, but just because you are seeing an RE doesn't mean that you are going to do IVF. They can do some non-invasive tests and make recommendations to help. I don't have infertility insurance coverage, but seeing the RE for diagnostic tests and consults counted as an OBGYN doctors visit and was covered. Shady Grove has many offices, so they may be convenient for you.
OP here - thanks so much. I did end up calling Shady Grove Fertility's K Street office and booked an appointment. I said that I only stopped breastfeeding 7 months ago, but because I have such irregular periods, they said I was still eligible for RE services without waiting for the year mark. (Counting breastfeeding as a contraception, even though of course it's not for everyone.) I had just moved here from the UK, where it is very difficult to see specialists (even Ob/GYNs aren't automatic - everything goes first through a GP), so this is all new. But I'm a bit relieved. I think an RE is the right way to go. Thanks again for all your support.
