If you also want a regular GYN who is quite helpful and supportive I recommend Virginia Thompson. However, she's not an OB anymore so if you do get pregnant she'll have to help you find an ob. That's how I did it for my first pregnancy at any rate.

OP here - thanks so much. I did end up calling Shady Grove Fertility's K Street office and booked an appointment. I said that I only stopped breastfeeding 7 months ago, but because I have such irregular periods, they said I was still eligible for RE services without waiting for the year mark. (Counting breastfeeding as a contraception, even though of course it's not for everyone.) I had just moved here from the UK, where it is very difficult to see specialists (even Ob/GYNs aren't automatic - everything goes first through a GP), so this is all new. But I'm a bit relieved. I think an RE is the right way to go.

For regular Obgyn issues I highly recommend the docs at Capitol women's care. For fertility there's shady grove. Both places are on K street, a five min walk from Farragut north.

I think Holy Cross may be the closest hospital to you, but they are a catholic hospital so if that's going to be an issue for you, consider something in the city like GW or maybe Shady Grove and search for doctors who deliver there.

Hi all!

I just moved to DC, TTC for a second child. It took me a year to get pregnant the first time, so we essentially have "been trying" since my son was born 18 months ago. My periods are all over the place - totally unpredictable, and I think I need some active help from a physician.

Does anyone have good recommendations for an Ob/GYN etc. that is sympathetic to TTC concerns? (i.e. doesn't just say "have more sex!") I live in Takoma, and am car-less, so close to public transport would be even better.
