We have an (almost) all-glass single door facing a somewhat busy street; we're redoing our landscaping to let in more light but it does mean we're losing some privacy. Currently we have a natural woven shade on (comparable to this: http://www.smithandnoble.com/pip/natural-woven-tailored-shades/shades/natural-woven-shades), but with the days getting short and the new layout, we might as well plop our family room on the street as almost everything is visible through it if the inside is illuminated after dark. That aside, I like the look. Most of our windows have plantation shutters, as my husband grew up in a house be-swagged and be-decked within an inch of its life and is now allergic to any serious window fabric. (This include romans. Dude hates romans.) If you saw his childhood home, you'd be sympathetic too. Suggestions?? I honestly don't know what to do to give us some good privacy after dark and yet (1) blend with the house and (2) make DH happy too.
I had this issue with a rental. You can buy "frost" at Home Depot (it's a roll of plastic sheet) and I am not kidding you, it looks like the window is frosted when you put it on. Ah…google "peel and stick window film" You can also have professionals put it on and they have all sorts of styles. Here in CA I've got one to look at, then you can find comparable in your area metwest.com
