window tinting film will work during the day, but at night when your interior lights are on, you will be able to see in.
I'd recommend cellular shades with the top-down bottom up feature. This will allow you to lower the top a bit and let light in, or push all the way up, and have it fully engaged at night. it is fabric, like an accordian type of setup. Works well in this situation. You can also get wood blinds mounted up top of the door.
Or you can get a new door, some doors have blinds or shades in between 2 panels of glass so no dusting or anything is ever needed.

I had this issue with a rental. You can buy "frost" at Home Depot (it's a roll of plastic sheet) and I am not kidding you, it looks like the window is frosted when you put it on.

You can also have professionals put it on and they have all sorts of styles. Here in CA I've got one to look at, then you can find comparable in your area
