I am curious to know the going rate in NW DC area. I was referred to a woman by a friend for my 2nd grader who is having some reading trouble. The tutor is a reading teacher, has a master's in education and works for herself (is not from a service). She charges $75 an hour. Comes highly recommended. Is this what tutors typically charge in the area?
8:54 here - forgot to add that you get what you pay for. That doesn't mean that just because she charges $75 per hour that she is a skilled tutor, but I can for sure tell you that anyone who charges a "bargain price" is likely not skilled in teaching struggling students. Also, when you're talking about a difference of $10 per hour between one tutor or another - that is a literal drop in the bucket and not worth stressing over. It will be money well-spent if you find the right tutor for your kid.
