PP who recommended Riccar/finding that reddit thread here. I have a Miele canister (the Uniq, because I am crazy... I really wanted the controls on the handle), but their uprights didn't impress me in terms of it being easy to use the hose/attachments. I actually switched from upright to canister when I got my Miele, and I won't go back. It does take some getting used to, but my cleaning is so much more effective with a canister where it is fast and easy to pop the head off to get up in corners, furniture, under things, tight along the baseboard, etc.
1523 here. That is really funny. I did the exact opposite and switched from the Miele Cat & Dog canister to the Miele Twist upright! I found the canister more difficult to work with for the same reasons you mentioned as advantages. I didn't like that the canister followed behind a short hose and there was so much pulling. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, or it was habit of uprights, but I fell in love with the Miele upright once I used it. The two performed similarly, though I did invest in an extension kit to use. I will say that most every site will suggest a canister as the superior type of cleaner though. I just couldn't get used to it.
