I think the only assumption off the top of my head would be conflating the Hindi language (a young language, not the most important one in India according to many Indians) with the religion, Hinduism, which is complex and huge and not that structured and also was the "mother religion" from which Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism branched off. But apart from that, no not really. India is very alien and very complex to American culture in a lot of ways that I didn't realized until I started dating black and white guys, so I don't think Hindu Americans expect you to know the nuances.[/quote]
