Another Hindu here. Most Hindus (at least none I have come across) believe that gods literally lived on earth. Hindu gods, unlike other gods, are imperfect and subject to humanly foibles - they lie, can cheat, are subject to temptations etc.

My BFF from college is Hindu (is that how to say it? My apologies if not) and I got to dress in traditional clothing, including jewelry and henna, multiple times for many different occasions with her family and it was glorious.
I was concerned then that it wasn't okay for someone not of that religion to dress like that (saris and other 2 piece things I don't know the names of) but it was ok.
Maybe that is the draw to the religion for some?
I honestly have never felt so glamorous in my life

Hmm, not really? I think the only assumption off the top of my head would be conflating the Hindi language (a young language, not the most important one in India according to many Indians) with the religion, Hinduism, which is complex and huge and not that structured and also was the "mother religion" from which Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism branched off.
But apart from that, no not really. India is very alien and very complex to American culture in a lot of ways that I didn't realized until I started dating black and white guys, so I don't think Hindu Americans expect you to know the nuances.

3. I don't think think of white people as "ignorant" in general, first of all. Second, my chief frustration might be the fact that a lot of Hindu spirituality is appropriated by mainstream American culture without credit being given to the source (dharmic religious practices such as yoga, meditation, the importance of breathing, virtues of a vegetarian diet, etc), while a lot of institutional problems with Hindu's orthodoxy and political groups (corruption, misogyny, etc) are heavily focused on and branded as defining attributes of the religion.

I'm not a troll; I'm just completely ignorant about your people. It's entirely possible I think Hindu and Muslim are the same and don't really know the difference (or if there IS a difference).
