Obviously this sounds like terrible parenting but hear me out. Background: my 13 year old dd is so sweet and amazing and talented and...well...very awkward at times too. I was totally that kid back in the day so I get it and have a lot of empathy and try my best to help her socially when I can. She is VERY excited about this end of the year pool party another classmate is hosting at her house. She literally skipped downstairs to my room the day she got the invite. She has been talking about it for weeks now and getting the perfect swimsuit has been the main focus of the past month. Long story short I ended up letting her get a suit that Im not thrilled with...its a little skimpier than I would of liked. Part of me was exhausted (this was our third shopping trip this month...all of them a few hours/multiple stores so we both were about to strangle each other at times) and part of me just wanted to give in so she could feel awesome at her party. Its nothing too scandalous and I am sure there will be worst at the party but DH isn't thrilled. He accused me of living vicariously through DD and reminded me "I am no longer in middle school" and now I am second guessing my judgement. Anyone been in a similar situation? I have a feeling this is an entry level example of whats ahead in our household.
