OP here. Soon as in this coming weekend. Sounds like it might be too cold for the beach this early in the season. We'll really only have 1 day to do touristy things with the kids, so what would you guys do if you had one day there? Thanks!
If I only had one day, I'd go to the nature museum in brewster, pp mentioned. The hike really is beautiful. Bring a picnic lunch (if allowed, although we always eat at the benches at the top of the cliff - that will make sense if you do the whole loop). Haven't been to the fire station museum, but maybe check it out if your kids are interested. I'd go to Sesuit harbor cafe for seafood/lobster roll. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/103/845157/restaurant/Cape-Cod/East-Dennis/Sesuit-Harbor-Cafe-Dennis. I'd stay on rt 6a for as long as possible during the drive and pop into an art or antique store. Maybe go to Plymouth plantation in the afternoon if you get an early start for the nature museum. I'd end the day at Plymouth harbor, check out the rock, have dinner and ice cream and walk the beach or fly kites.
Pp here. Just want to highlight Sesuit harbor cafe is cash only. Not sure if they have an ATM there.
