After APs and senior finals, many upper level classes basically end. Yes, kids are expected to show up and sometimes have a final project, but basically the school year is over for them in May. After next week my 11th grader will only have instruction in three classes. Even teachers in the music programs stop teaching after the final concerts which happen in late April-mid May. Pretty ridiculous and a waste of time.
Why don't seniors graduate at the end of the school year - around June 15th? That way high school instruction doesn't stop for the entire school. Either that or have everybody end before Memorial Day. This quarter has been a complete JOKE when it comes to instruction. How much you want to bet final exams scores (including math) will be in the toilet because kids are not being taught up to the end of the school year. If the curriculum is over, why don't they start exam reviews? Seriously, my kids have been watching movies in class for 2 weeks while kids take AP tests. What is the educational value of watching "Little Mermaid" in English class?
