We just sent them to the ones who were invited to the grad party. That way it could double as an invite and an announcement.
We sent to a few, very close relatives who live far away so couldn't come to the graduation ceremony or party (which was very small). Sending announcements to everyone you and your kid knows looks like a gift grab, to me. Please don't go there. But whatever you send, be sure that the invitation and the announcement, if you have two different ones, can't be confused. These days there are tight limits on how many people kids can have to attend the ceremony, in some schools. So you don't want anything that could "double as an invite and an announcement" IF that means people think they're invited to the ceremony but they're really just getting an announcement.
