We sent to a few, very close relatives who live far away so couldn't come to the graduation ceremony or party (which was very small).
Sending announcements to everyone you and your kid knows looks like a gift grab, to me. Please don't go there.
But whatever you send, be sure that the invitation and the announcement, if you have two different ones, can't be confused. These days there are tight limits on how many people kids can have to attend the ceremony, in some schools. So you don't want anything that could "double as an invite and an announcement" IF that means people think they're invited to the ceremony but they're really just getting an announcement.

To me, it seems tacky to send them unless you're throwing a grad party or inviting the recipient to the actual ceremony.

I've had two kids graduate from high school. We did not send out announcements. That seems like a gift grab to me. We sent out invitations to a graduation party but that's it.

I bought the jostens and ended up not sending them out. Just seemed tacky. I decided to create my own.

Ha. Definitely too late to go through school sales. Everyone of my DDs friends had personalized photo announcements. They were all awesome. Check out shutterfly or tiny prints or anyplace for tons of ideas.

Yes, you should send them out. And do the classic, formal one that you order through the school from Josten's or whatever. I know a lot of people are making their own on sites like shutterfly. This makes me kind of sad because I think the graduation announcements shouldn't change to look just like every other invitation, announcement, or card. I remember feeling pretty proud when I finally got the announcements in MY school colors with MY name on the little card.

Do most people send them out? I wasn't planning on it, but then in the college graduation announcement thread there are some who really like them. Might be too late for us at this point anyhow. If not, is there a recommended place to order them from?
