Former teacher here and deliberately picked a school in APS that uses Responsive Classroom. In fact, our school was one of the first in the system. No way in hell would my kids every go to a school with a stoplight system.
I didn't realize the different APS schools do it differently. How can you find out which ones use which system???? Our APS elementary uses the stoplight system and it's been hard watching my kid work through it. Mostly a good kid, but he has had a few instances of misbehavior. When you're put on red the whole class knows it and goes home and tells their parents who was on red etc. My poor kid was so devastated by being put on red that he wouldn't talk about school for a week. He also now thinks of the kids who are frequently on red as bad kids. Sometimes it may keep kids in line and I get why there needs to be a system of some sort, but it is public shaming. It's stigmatizing to be frequently on red because the whole class is made aware of your status and you're held up as an example of a bad kid.
