One thing I have learned about Intel winners and the likes is that the school had little or nothing to do with it. Usually, it is the student's own initiative or parental help in knowing somebody at a lab. Congratulations young man and well done parents!!
And yet for some reason the Intel winners, semi-finalists, etc. so often come form Blair and so rarely come from any other schools in Montgomery County. Coincidence, I guess?
No coincidence. Let me be clear that Blair doesn't produce Intel winners, the Blair magnet program does. The reason you see so many from the Blair magnet is because 1. it is the only program that gets students from across the county. For example, the Blair winner hails from North Bethesda. 2. Blair pushes kids to find a mentor for their senior research project and pushes them to enter competitions. Take a look at the available courses at Blair and you will find that there is no way you could get the background to do the research these kids claim to have done.
