Waiting at home for a repairmen and only half working with the TV on and found a channel showing back to back Love Boats. The one on right right is Billy Crystal as the kissing bandit, which was a season 1 episode. Other guest stars include Nancy Kulp (the assistant from the Beverly Hillbillies), Robert Reed (Brady Bunch), Toni Tenille, one of the daughters from 8 is Enough, Marilyn McCoo, Todd Bridges, and a few other random people. It's making me think of the other late 70s/early 80s shows - I feel like there were lots of shows that randomly grouped celebrities, like Fantasy Island. Or other entertainment shows like Battle of the Network Stars. What's our modern equivalent? I suppose Law & Order is famous for its guest stars, but I can't think of anything else that assembles ensemble casts. I know they were cheesy as hell, but what's our celebrity outlet now? One theory might be that celebrities used to have private lives and we could get a sense of them from their guest spots, and that today we get our fill from celebrity red carpets and celebrity fashion websites, or gossip sites that report on celebrities. Is this just nostalgia on my part, or is it time for cheesy celebrity ensemble shows to make a comeback?
