In Maryland, local taxes are remitted to the state and then paid back to the counties. It's a much more convenient system (for tax preparers at least) than states like Pennsylvania where you have a whole separate local return that varies by town. If the county taxes were not included in the MD withheld, you would have had to pay a lot with your return last year so you probably would have noticed.[/quote]
