This is correct. In Maryland, local taxes are remitted to the state and then paid back to the counties. It's a much more convenient system (for tax preparers at least) than states like Pennsylvania where you have a whole separate local return that varies by town. If the county taxes were not included in the MD withheld, you would have had to pay a lot with your return last year so you probably would have noticed.

GOP should pass a bill that no taxes can be taken out of paychecks . The governments should have to bill citizens monthly so the people are well aware of the leeches.

The DC employer is dropping the ball. Should be withholding moco local, because you live there (MD local goes by place of residence not employment) . You'll end up paying it for dh when you file - runs 3.2%.

Maryland, DC and Virginia have reciprocity as far as taxes are concerned. It's not like, for example, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Is your husband having any taxes withheld?

DH and I both live in MoCo. I work in MoCo and local tax is withheld from my salary. DH works in DC but no local MD tax is withheld from his salary. This has happened since he started working there 8/2013. What gives?
