OP here -- it's not just about saving $$ -- it's about the dishonesty of convincing the public that "hey, boot cut is really best for everyone b/c skinny pants look horrible and make your butt huge" and then 3 yrs. later, the same "experts" are trying to tell us the exact opposite "hey, you HAVE TO HAVE skinny jeans". Well, are we stupid or what? The "experts" are telling us two different things and expect us to pay them both times! You can't credibly convince the public that you know what you're talking about if you tell us completely opposite things.
Well look. No one is holding a gun to your hear and making you change your jeans. (I don't think? I hope?) Fashion goes in cycles. Part of looking good isn't just what looks good objectively for all time. Part of looking good is looking stylish. And boot cut jeans, by and large, may be flattering to some people - but they aren't stylish. (Though I have seen some fashion types wearing them the last couple of years, and I suspect within a few more years we will all have given up the skinnies since they won't look very stylish anymore. Which makes me sad. Because as a petite person, they really do look better on me than the boot cuts do.) TL;DR: Wear what you like. There is no fashion tyranny. Looking stylish is something that some people care about, others not so much.
