We are in FCPS grade school. I wish I had more time to volunteer in the classroom so I would be more aware of what is happening. The teachers do seem fantastic, but I often wonder if there are too many restrictions/regulations that the teachers must follow that prevents them from providing the best possible education. We seem to only get graded homework papers sent home, and I rarely receive in-school work (except art projects). Also, my kids have lots of homework. I feel like we are spending too much time teaching them at home, what they should have learned in school. I know a lot of emphasis is on the parents providing supplemental education support at home, but I work full-time with long hours; so unfortunately they don't get the support they should during summer and school breaks. I am actually taking a day off work today. Anyway ... since I am oblivious to what is actually happening in the classroom, and I am not seeing the results I would expect ... I have to give the education a 7-8 (bad grade); but I give the teachers a 2-3 (excellent grade). BTW - Like the previous posters commented, your grade scale is backwards.
You are right about the restrictions/regulations. I'm a teacher education student and we are learning all about this right now. A lot of it is because of education legislation, and because of the sol tests, and "education reform". Your rating seems to be pretty accurate.
